Some Finished finishes!

First up is this cute little pink scrap quilt.  Back in the day I must have done a number of pink quilts 'cause my pink bin is overflowing!  I had a lot of patches the same size and a lot of HST.  The border fab was leftovers from a quilt I made for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary,  that's got to be at least 20 years ago?!  Funny the things we remember...
Monochrome color schemes are so easy, every piece of fab goes with everyother piece of fab!  I'm donating this quilt to the CASA the foster kids support program.

Next up is this T-shirt quilt that I made for myself.  You can see by the link I finished the top in 2013! Since I made it for myself the quilting and binding kept getting pushed to the end of the To- do list.  But I finally finished it and it is really nice and cuddly.

I'm not much of a fishing person but I really like fish T-shirts.
Some of them are really funny!
Next up is what I call a "Big Chunks" quilt.  A top made from fat quarters and other large chunks of fabric.  The Top was made by Randy as a backing but she decided not to use it so she gave it to me to make a charitable quilt.  I used a really cuddly minky kind of throw to back it and quilted each large patch with a different free form pattern,  Good Practice!
Sometimes I just followed the patterns in the fabric.
I thought this one looked pretty cool?  I would use this one again if I could figure out how to do it without the help of the fabric!
This is almost a twin size.  I think I will give this one to Hospice.
I try to make about 12 charitable quilts a year.  I'm a little behind schedule but I think I'll be able to catch up if I finish the tops in my last post soon!
What kind of patterns do you use for Charitable quilts?
Happy over the hump day!

Some finishes for Charity!! Yeah!

Here are a couple of tops I finished in the past 2 weeks.  I started them in the Fall but had to set them aside to get organised for our local Fair.
These two were made with some fat quarters of Amy Butler fabric.  They are such bright and cheerful prints I thought they would make good kid quilts for donation.  They still need borders but I'm going to keep that simple / solid.
The center of this little cutie is made from four crazy patch orphan blocks.  All I had to do was square them up, sew them together and add the border.  I don't know who made the blocks. They were gifted to me by the "bargain garden" as left overs that did not sell.  The BG ladies gave me a whole bag of orphan blocks to make charitable quilts.  These cute blocks practically jump out of the bag and put themselves together.  It's fun when that happens!
What's your favorite pattern for charity quilts?
You're probably thinking these aren't really finished finishes!  Next up will be some quilted and bound  ready-to-go finishes!  'til then Happy weekend!
And since I'm celebrating some finishes I'm linking up with Can I Get A Whoop Whoop?!  the link is at the top of the page!

PVQA March Block of the month "Spring Sampler" and give away!

Details for the give away are at the bottom of the post!

Spring Sampler Block                                    8.5 “ unfinished

Sometimes it's nice just to make the BOM a Sampler!  Everyone can choose their own favorite block or try something new!  I'm calling it our Spring Sampler with this fun Aunt Grace print by Judie Rothermel.  The grey back ground makes it look possibly 30's or Modern and the print could even be a Mid Century modern, a really fun print to play with!

I'm also posting over at Sarah's "Can I get a Whoop Whoop Friday" at Confessions of a Fabric Addict" linky party 'cause i'm so glad I got this posted done this week! Check it out here

Make an 8.5” (unfinished) block, any style;  pieced, appliqued etc. of any block design of your choice. Use the print provided and the white fabric for background.  You may add one additional fabric print or solid that compliments the colors in the provided print (yellow, red, spring green, grey or black).
Below are three of my test blocks and a patch of the print set in squares.  This is one of my favorite ways to set sampler blocks!
Here's how I pieced two of my Test blocks.  Anvil on the left and Modified Churn Dash on the right.
Here are some other ideas:
It was easy to make my two test blocks in tandem.  I counted up all the 2.5" HST I'd need for both those blocks and sewed them at the same time.
I like to cut my HST a little big and then trim them down for more accuracy.  The initial squares were cut at 3".
Trimed down to 2.5"
The rest was easy!
Center squares were cut at 4.5"
Rectangles cut at 2.5" x4.5"
Corner squares cut at 2.5"
I have a couple of old favorites when I'm looking for Blocky inspiration.
I especially like the "Quilting  & Patchwork Dictionary" because all the blocks are illustrated in a grid format so the math is easy!
I've purchased all thes books used, great values!
Applique is not my strong suit but I thought to be a good model to my students I would make an appliqué designed block as well.
The circular motifs made great flowers!  I think the sky needs a bluebird or something?!

And now for the Give away!  A jelly roll of reproduction prints (not sure of the manufacturer)  I've had it for awhile.  The're really nice prints but I find I just don't used jelly rolls all that much.  All you need to do is leave me a comment about your favorite go-to block!  And if you sign up to follow on any one of the sites on my side bar you'll be entered twice!
Thanks for Stopping by!
Happy weekend!
Cheers, Claire W.

We always have an exhibit of Young Peoples Quilts put on by 4H.  I thought this one was particularly well done!  The maker is 10 yrs. old!

Well I hope you enjoyed the show, I sure did! I think it was really exceptional this year!
Between the show's inspiration and the rainy weather I've got a lot of sewing done and some finishes!  but before I can post about those adventures I need to get the BOM for March organized.  I will post those instructions Tues. with a little Giveaway!
Happy Sunday!
Cheers, Claire W.
